Have you ever wondered how an empty tray like this one,
becomes a full tray of seedlings, delivered to the farm and ready to plant ?
Take the pictorial tour below to find out. Click on an image for a larger view.
Trays are filled with growing media and seeds are sown in our fully automatic seeding and tray handling facility.
From there sown trays are transferred mechanically onto frames which carry the trays through the nursery system.
The loaded frames are then taken to the temperature controlled germination room until seedlings begin to emerge.
Once germinated, the frames are transferred onto the shuttle to await laying out in the glasshouse.
Frames are picked up from the shuttle by the lifting gantry.
The lifting gantry transports the seedlings, on the frames, and places them in growing bays throughout the nursery glasshouses.
Seedlings are watered by our travelling irrigation system. This unit is capable of watering, fertilising (fertigation) and spraying.
After about 2 weeks, seedlings are relocated from the glasshouses to outdoor production areas by another lifting gantry. The gantry system is capable of moving up to 30,000 plants at a time.
Seedlings are watered, fertigated and sprayed outside by the same system as in the glasshouses. Seedlings are hardened in the open for up to 8 weeks.
Once ready for planting, and thus delivery, hardened seedlings are collected for shipping by the lifting gantries.
The lifting gantries place the frames onto the dispatch shuttles.
The dispatch shuttle automatically delivers the loaded seedlings to the dispatch facility.
In the dispatch facility, frames are stacked and orders are prepared for delivery.
Stacked frames are placed in our coolroom for chilling prior to delivery. The chilling process temporarily slows growth and helps ensure the best possible quality seedlings are delivered.
Stacked frames of customer orders are loaded on to the truck.
The truck is loaded, ready to deliver quality Boomaroo vegetable seedlings to our customers.
