Our Community

Right from the beginning the Jacometti brothers' philosophy has been that the success of the company is that of its communities. Over the years, Boomaroo has made significant contributions to the close-knit communities of Lara and nearby Geelong, including feeding the homeless, supporting the St Laurence Park Retirement Village and providing mentorship to troubled kids. We believe our corporate social responsibility is really important to the culture of our business and we involve our employees in all of these efforts.

Boomaroo Nurseries is a key sponsor of the Lara Food and Wine Festival and was instrumental in its initiation. This not-for-profit community event showcases the best in local produce. The festival is a lot of fun for the whole community with food stalls, competitions and musical performances throughout the day. Lara is the hometown of 'Getaway' presenter Catriona Rowntree who was the festival MC last year to approximately 8000 attendees.

While we believe that charity should not have to be seen to be done, our efforts have been recognised. In 2010 Boomaroo won the local Geelong 'Bollie of the Year' award for our community participation.

Boomaroo also received a prestigious award nomination for our innovative chemical application machinery that helped to protect lettuce crops when the notorious lettuce aphid reached Australia in 2005. Having already devastated crops throughout America and Europe, the lettuce aphid is a prolific breeder and gets right into the heart of the lettuce making it very difficult to treat. By applying the chemical extremely accurately (a world first) we minimised infestation to .0001% of lettuce crops.
